Rinia island is very close to Delos: they are only about 700 meters apart at the closed point, the natural harbor of Generale. There are no permanent residents on the islands.

Its history is bound up with that of Delos.
After 425, it became a place for the burial of the dead and for childbirth, since a law was passed forbidding the beginning or ending of human life on the Sacred island itself.

Excavations have revealed many graves, most of which are on display in the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos, with a small collection in the Delos Museum. The excavations on Rinia have also brought to light the remains of various buildings, sanctuaries, altars, etc.

The island belongs to the Municipality of Mykonos, from where there is a daily boat service.
