This is a small group of islets at the northern part of the Dodecanese of which Lipsi is the largest and the only inhabited. It lies between Patmos and Leros and has an area of 16 square kilometers.
Around the main island, 24 islets and 6 rocky peaks make up an impressive island group.

Its history is shared with that of the rest of the Dodecanese islands. Lipsi seems to have been inhabited from pre-historic times until today. The first inhabitants of the island were Kares, Dorians and Ionians.
For five hundred years, beginning in the reign of the Byzantine emperor Alexios Komninos, the small island was under the absolute control of the monastery on Patmos.
During the Greek War of Independence of 1821, its isolated position made it a suitable refuge for the insurgents and it became an outpost for Greek ships in their clashes with the Turkish fleet.

The island of Lipsi is a paradise on earth, far from the bustle and noise of busy beaches and is the ideal place for a quiet holiday and relaxing, close to nature.
It has small hotels, some rooms for rent, taverns serving top quality local food, fresh fish and seafood, and café bars.

The settlement of the island is built on a hill, with picturesque white houses on the slopes and the church of Agios Ioannis Theologos with its blue dome and two bell towers at the top.
On the summit are preserved the remains of an ancient acropolis and some tombs.
The Nikiforion Ecclesiastical and Folk Museum houses some interesting exhibits, including a small archaeological collection.
It is also worth visiting the churches of the Panagia Charou, of the Dormition of the Virgin located in a small harbor, of the Panagia of Kouselio built on the foundations of a pre-christian temple and the two churches of Saint Nicholas located on either side of the harbor. Panaghia Charou is one of the oldest and most remarkable churches on the island built in around 1600.

Other settlements on Lipsi are those of Kouselio, Katsadia, and Platis Gialos.
