Agathonisi is located at the northernmost point of the Dodecanese complex and it is surrounded by other smaller islets (Kounelonisi, Neronisi, Stroggyli, Glaros etc.)

It is 8 nautical miles from the Micrasiatic coasts. The length of the island is 7 kilometres from the East to the west, the width 3 kilometers and the length of its coast is about 32 kilometers. In the ancient times it was called Gaidouronisi or Yetoussa and excavations have revealed some ancient pieces there.
