Agios Efstratios is a small remote island, 21 nautical miles south of Lemnos. It has a total area of 49 square kilometers and 30 kilometers of coastline. The highest peaks of the island are Simadi (298 meters), Agios Alexis and Profitis Elias. Its landscape is volcanic and its only settlement is Agios Efstratios (or Ai-Stratis).
The island was named after Saint Efstratios, who lived and dead on the island in the 19th c. as an exile. The island was inhabited from ancient times.
